Membership
Overview
Membership
in BOMA is exciting and diverse. Opportunities to be involved with
one of the most dynamic and growing commercial real estate groups
in the area are only available through full membership. As a
member you have a chance to network with others associated with our
industry, take advantage of the available educational
opportunities, stay informed concerning trends in the industry, and
advocate the interests of the real estate industry with public
policy makers.
A Strong Legislative Voice
and Industry Representation
At the local, state and national levels, BOMA International
represents your concerns. From local code and real estate concerns,
to national legislation on such issues as the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), private cable
access, or the goal of creating a single uniform set of codes, BOMA
protects the interests of the building owner or manager. Through its
professional lobbying efforts, BOMA influences legislation and
represents your interests before federal agencies such as the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Prime Networking
Opportunities
Access to the industry leaders is provided through monthly
meetings and events, local membership directories, and
newsletters. More than 18,000 BOMA members are reached through
the Annual Convention and the Winter Business Meeting, the
Membership Directory Who's Who in the Office Building Industry,
and the Buyers Guide of Products and Services.
Professional Designation
Programs
Nationally recognized designations of Real Property Administrator (RPA),
Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA), and Facilities Management
Administrator (FMA) are offered through the Building Owners and
Managers Institute (BOMI). Local BOMA Associations sponsor on site
courses, or they can be completed through independent study.
Timely Education
Local seminars and workshops offer expert speakers on the issues and
trends within the changing industry. BOMA International's Annual
Convention & The Office Building Show highlight the best industry
talent from North America through in-depth education seminars and
exhibits of emerging technologies and new services.
Research
BOMA is the source of valuable office building performance data.
Special studies are available on a variety of topics such as
occupancy analysis, operating expenses, office tenant moves and
office building cleaning. BOMA provides its members with a
competitive edge through updates and reports on emerging trends,
current issues, as well as industry specific seminars. This allows
BOMA members to be alerted to changes well enough in advance to
minimize the effect on their bottom line.
Publications
Local association newsletters and BOMA International's BOMA.Org
magazine cover news of the commercial real estate industry, its
trends, legislative and regulatory affairs, and much more. BOMA
International offers a wide range of special publications on a
variety of topics such as telecommunications access, ADA, leasing,
and office tenants.
Discounts
BOMA members receive discounts on all local meetings, events, and
seminars, as well as on all BOMA International meeting registrations
and publications.
Increased Professionalism
Through active participation, each member forms relationships with a
network of peers, which enhance personal professionalism. In
addition, the commercial real estate industry at large is
strengthened.
Personal Development
Your active involvement as a committee member allows you the
opportunity to chair meetings, develop public speaking skills, and
organize special events. Each of these, among a host of other
activities, allows you to develop skills you don't usually have the
chance to cultivate at work but that will benefit you in the
development of your career.
Local Events
BOMA Birmingham offers tours of local facilities, golf tournaments,
local TOBY and member awards program, allied spotlights, summer
social, annual holiday party, and monthly luncheons which feature
speakers of interest to membership.
